Ronald Scott (Ron) Kaniuk is a Founding Member of Ricardo, Wasylik & Kaniuk, PL (“RW&K”), and serves as both Co-Managing Partner and as the Managing Partner for RW&K’s South Florida offices (in Aventura, Boca Raton, Miami and West Palm Beach). Ron is also the Chair of the Bankruptcy and Real Estate Departments. An experienced business lawyer and advisor with fifteen (15) years experience in the area of bankruptcy and real estate law, Ron regularly advises a diverse range of individual and business clients in state and federal courts, and has been a leading advocate for homeowners during the current foreclosure crisis.

Ron is a double-graduate of St. John’s University School of Law—he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1996, where he was a staff member of the St. John’s Journal of Legal Commentary, a staff member and editor for the New York International Law Review, and an Executive Board Member of the Moot Court Honor Society. After graduation, he obtained a Federal Bankruptcy Clerkship with then-U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Marvin A. Holland, and after several years in private practice, was recruited to return to St. John’s as a student in the LL.M. in Bankruptcy Program, from which he graduated in 2002.

Ron is also a 1993 graduate of Northwestern University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences. At Northwestern, Ron was a member of the Order of Omega and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Societies, an Executive Board Member for Dance Marathon and an officer in several campus organizations.

Ron is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. He is also licensed to practice in the States of New York and New Jersey, and admitted to practice in the federal courts in New Jersey and the Eastern, Southern and Western Districts of New York.

Ron focuses his practice in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Throughout his career, he has represented individual and corporate debtors; private, commercial lenders; unsecured creditors; chapter 7 panel trustees; landlords and tenants; and other parties in interest. Ron advises clients on the business and litigation aspects of bankruptcy and workouts. His experience in bankruptcy cases crosses a broad array of industries, including finance, retail, real estate, healthcare, mortgage lending, maritime, and telecommunications. He has appeared in cases in proceedings in Florida, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Texas.

With the epidemic rise in foreclosures, Ron has become an advocate for homeowners, helping with loan modifications, short sales and foreclosure defense. He is a Founding Member of the Florida Forelcosure Defense Bar Association, has been a guest on several radio and television programs, and has been a featured speaker at programs throughout South Florida aimed at helping homeowners with their financial problems. Additionally, Ron also represents buyers and sellers of residential and commercial property.

Married with three children, Ron is also active in many charitable and philanthropic endeavors, and is delighted to call South Florida his home.
