Stop eviction: Are Florida Landlords breaking the law if they try to evict during the eviction freeze?

Landlords who give eviction notices or file eviction paperwork with the court may be breaking the law.Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has suspended all foreclosures and evictions until midnight on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. The federal government has suspended all evictions for landlords whose loans are backed by the federal government or who take part in certain federal programs — like Section 8 housing — until July 25, 2020.

Until then, we believe landlord who evict before the law allows may open themselves up to lawsuits for breaking the law — and the tenants who they victimize will have winning defenses to stop the eviction dead in its tracks.
